A Session With Me

While counselling sessions are as unique and individual as you, your therapist, and the relationship you have, there is a common thread that weaves through. For counselling to be effective, it is important you feel safe and welcome. Whether we meet in person or via telehealth, I will always start our session by greeting you warmly and making sure that you feel welcome and seen. We will enter a conversation that allows you to share your issues and goals with me, while also giving you any information you need about my background and the way I work.

In the first session, we will go through the paperwork I have sent you and I will explain topics such as confidentiality and address any questions and concerns you might have. We will then explore in more detail what has brought you to counselling, and what you are hoping to achieve. This will help me use an approach that suits you, your personality, preferences, and situation, so you can get the most out of your sessions.

During counselling I use my training and experience to come up with solutions that you are comfortable with, and that work for you.

This process involves you, as an equal partner to your therapy. I am a person-centred counsellor, which means that I believe that you are the expert in your life. I am there to walk beside you and offer insights and to support you to find solutions that are effective for you. I won't ever ask you to share anything you don’t want to, or to work at a certain pace. You are always in control of the counselling process, and of the techniques you accept or reject. This way, you can become strong and effective in addressing life’s issues and difficulties.

I will end the session in a way that leaves you feeling strong and ready to face your week. I'll often ask you for feedback and use this to adjust my approach and to keep on track. When appropriate, I will follow this up with a short email to send you a summary of what we have talked about, and any links or tools.

We will book in the next session at a time that suits you, and you'll receive a reminder beforehand.

If you have any questions or would like to book a session with me, please book a free 15-minute chat to see if we’re a good fit.
